Compassion for Children - Our Work

Our Work / Programs

2 community programs across Sri Lanka

2 community programs in East Timor

Education Support

In the Nursery School in Sri Lanka, they support the education of up to 90 children! In another school in the east of the island there are about 50 children.

In the orphanage in East Timor there is 1 nun who takes care of up to 40 children. All children now have a few books and learning resources- but we need to significantly add to this as they are under-resourced.

Child Nutrition

Food is obviously a large cost, however, we try to encourage the children to be as sustainable as possible. In the orphanage, we bought crops and they now grow a lot of their own vegetables. We are looking at installing a cage of chickens too for eggs. The children help out with the chores like cooking and cleaning.

Community Health

The children have a toilet and clean water to wash their hands. They learn about hygiene and good health.

History

Before this program, some of the children slept in bedding soaked by monsoon rains from leaking roofs and often went hungry with little food. There was a lot of sadness in their faces. After just a year the children beam smiles from wall to wall. They have clean clothes. Good food. A bed each and a roof that doesn’t leak.

Your kindness and support turns stories like these into reality every day!
