We are a community-based charity working to support vulnerable children living in poverty in Sri Lanka and East Timor offering safety, food, healthcare & education.
Since our founding, we’ve helped numerous children to have a safe environment to thrive in.
We (Chris and Angie) have worked as volunteers supporting disadvantaged children in Sri Lanka for about 15 years and the last couple of years also in East Timor, Indonesia.
Our background has always involved working with charities. Angie is a teacher and Chris works in interpretation – we are both fortunate enough to work remotely which gives us the freedom to travel to support some amazing children in Asia.
We have always worked with the homeless & some of the needy in the UK. Our main support has always been for the third world. We particularly have been supporting street children in Sri Lanka with basic shelter, food, hygiene and education.
In 2024 we were working in a school on a small island in East Timor, Indonesia. Whilst there, we stumbled across a desperately poor orphanage in the small town of Lembata.
We decided then to concentrate more of our efforts and help the orphanage (many of the children slept on bare floors with a leaking roof and they didn’t even have a toilet!)
We helped the children in the orphanage with food supplies, clothing, fresh water supply, electricity supply, a secure garden wall, a new roof, bedding and even a laptop so we can teach them remotely from wherever we are in the world.
We decided to set up our charity ‘Compassion for Children’ after another visit to both countries early in 2025. We felt the need for the charity status to give our cause a greater awareness to support deserving children.
We were approved by the Charities Commission at the end of October 2025 and we look forward to concentrating our support to the next level in both Sri Lanka and East Timor.
